Why Beach Volleyball?

Beach volleyball is a fast paced, exciting sport that is played with two people per team. Unlike indoors
where players specialize in specific positions and skill sets, the athlete must be proficient in passing,
setting, hitting, and blocking. Court coverage is also larger, meaning the player is always in some state
of movement when the ball is in play. Sand also provided a constant form of conditioning and resistance
in turn allowing for an improvement in speed, agility, and quickness. Beach volleyball also provides less
impact in regards to jumping, lessoning the chance for injury.
Beach volleyball as a whole is becoming more popular with junior players because of the lifestyle and
additional opportunities for scholarships as well as a way to improve their indoor skill set. There are several indoor programs that now are adding beach volleyball to their programs as a way to improve the skill set of their indoor teams.

Goals of Moco Mavs Beach Volleyball Program

The primary and number one goal of Moco Mavs Beach is to always enjoy the game and have fun. Along
the way overall development of all basic skills and implementation of specific beach volleyball strategies
will be put into place. For those deciding to compete there will be more focus on the nuances of the
game in order to be as competitive as possible, not only in Houston area but surrounding areas as well.
There are opportunities for post season play including USA Volleyball Beach Nationals, AAU Beach Nationals, and AVP America Nationals – all at the end of summer.
